What Is Pay For Deletion?

Pay for deletion is a negotiation strategy where a consumer or their representative offers to pay a delinquent debt in exchange for the creditor or collection agency agreeing to remove the negative item from the consumer's credit report.

This approach is most commonly used with collection accounts. When a debt has been sold to a collection agency, that agency has more flexibility to negotiate removal because they purchased the debt at a discount and may agree to remove the tradeline as part of a settlement.

Pay for deletion is one of several strategies used by Pay After Deletion Credit Repair as part of a comprehensive credit repair plan. It is not appropriate for every situation, and we evaluate each account individually.

Important: Pay for deletion is not guaranteed

Creditors and collection agencies are not legally required to agree to pay for deletion. Some will negotiate; others will not. We evaluate each account and recommend the most effective strategy based on your specific situation.

When Pay For Deletion Is Most Effective

Situations Where It May Work

Third-party collection accounts
Older debts nearing the statute of limitations
Smaller balance accounts
Accounts where the creditor is motivated to settle
Debts purchased at a significant discount

Situations Where It Is Less Likely to Work

Original creditors with strict policies
Government-backed student loans
Tax liens and public records
Recently opened accounts
Accounts where the creditor has a no-deletion policy

How We Use Pay For Deletion

At Pay After Deletion Credit Repair, pay for deletion is one tool in our broader dispute strategy. We evaluate every account on your credit report and determine the most effective approach for each item.

For collection accounts where a pay for deletion agreement is possible, we negotiate on your behalf. For items that can be disputed under the FCRA as inaccurate or unverifiable, we file formal disputes. For medical accounts, we may also apply HIPAA-based strategies.

Regardless of the strategy used, our pricing model remains the same: you only pay for confirmed deletions. If a pay for deletion negotiation succeeds and the item is removed, you pay our per-deletion fee. If it does not succeed, you do not pay for that item.
